Home made “stages” for babyfood?
I’ve made all my 9 month son’s food at home, with a food mill, or the food processor, and I’m wondering what others do for “stages…”
I see in the store that there are “stages” for baby food, and I wonder what other mom’s are doing to make their own baby food once the plain old puree is too boring for them?
He eats everything so far, and seems to like it all. I’ve given him fish, chicken, lamb, etc. as well as lentils,eggs, and every fruit and veggie I can think of!
Should I just make the veggies chunkier, with little pieces in the puree?
Of course anything I can cut into a cube works too, as finger food, but I worry that if we switch to just finger food that he won’t get enough in him, as opposed to feeding him half his meal and then letting him eat the rest with his fingers.
I LOVE the website wholesomebabyfood.com but I’m still unsure about textures and mixtures?
What can I make that can be frozen like the purees? I’d prefer not to make a new meal 3 times a day!
“Stages” are gimmicks. For the first 50 years or so of commercial babyfood, there were no ‘stages’ — just standard purees. Once baby was ready to move on, he went to table foods.
If baby is ready to move on, you could go right to table foods (cut up small) for him to pick up, or lightly mash things, as he seems able.
(He WILL get enough by feeding himself. He doesn’t need much solid food and if anything, babies are more likely to ‘overeat’ from being fed purees than to ‘undereat’ by feeding himself. If he’s hungry, he’ll get the food in. If not, there’s no reason to push it. )
