Make Your Own Baby Food

Moms who make your own baby food?

At what age did you start grinding up whatever you were having for dinner for your child? Did you literally chop up anything or were you selective about what they could or couldn’t have?

Right now my 6 1/2 month old has no teeth so obviously he can’t have too many things yet but I am preparing myself. I am sure it is right around the corner.

Thanks in Advance!

I started solids at 6 months. My son progessed very well with solids from there. I always make a steamed veggie for dinner. Whether it be carrots, green beans, squash, broccoli, whatever…. I would throw it through the food processor. For breakfasts I would bake fruits…. just slice up a peach and throw it in the oven for a half an hour with a little water… it would come out super soft and I could just mash it with a spoon. Avacado’s have always been a great snack. Then I began introducing lumpier foods around 7 months. Such as a ripe banana, I would just smash it up some and leave some lumps in it… he did fine with it. After he began to master fruits and veggies… I decided it was time to move onto some different foods. I began trying to incorporate foods that I was easy for him to eat into our dinner. Such as mashed potatos, au gratin potatos, soft pasta’s and so on. When transitioning to table foods, around 7-8 months…. he was doing good with chunky things. I just diced them up fine. As he became better with chewing… I decided to try some meats,,,, such as a little chicken or turkey… I cut these things very small and give him only little bits at a time….. and make sure he is swallowing before having more. My son is 10 months and pretty much eats everything we eat with the exception of some things, such as steak, tomatos sauces… and so on.
