Is there a kitchen appliance or appliances that will easily and efficiently grind nuts into a…?

…finely textured butter?
Also I am looking for an appliance that will easily and efficiently grind coffee beans into a fine powder and green tea leaves into a fine powder (while containing the dust that powdering tea makes). I can make a finely textured nut butter with a Cuisinart food processor but it turns into a big time and energy and attention consuming process especially if I want to avoid overheating. So I am wondering if there is an easy way. I can grind coffee beans into a fairly fine powder in the Braun electric coffee mill that I have but it also is a time and energy and attention consuming project which usually requires at least 6 or 7 cool down times. Same thing with tea.

This is a tricky question because I think it’s less a question of the appliance than the technique you use. Those are all three different foods to grind, with possibly different techniques. There’s something about the amount you are trying to grind (and the weight of what you are grinding pushing back towards the blades) and the ability to shake the contents easily back towards the blades as they are chopping. I think no matter what you buy for your home, you’ll have to stop and start if you are using a motor.

I used to grind nuts in a plain old 10 speed blender, with the top off, once the nuts turned fine. You have to stand there with a spatula and stop the blender and push the mixture back down because it’s sticky.

I’m suggesting a high power handheld with a chopper attachment to experiment with. Notice it’s named “chopper”. The reason I’m suggesting a high power handheld is that the clean up is easier and the overheating should be less an issue with the motor exposed rather than imbedded in a big piece of machinery.

I haven’t done this myself, but I think the basket attachment allows you a little more manouverability in being able to “shake” the contents. Hard to shake a whole food processor or blender. Also, maybe easier than a food processor to start and stop, open the the basket and close it.

Go for a more expensive handheld rather than the $20 kind. The worst that could happen is you end up with a great handheld, but still have to experiment a little more.

This one looked good: http://www.epinions.com/Braun_Hand_Blenders_BR_MR5550CA_Small_Appliances/display_~full_specs

This is a very weird outside experiment, but try hand grinding with a kitchen mortar and pestal first and see what happens:

Good luck and I applaud your home grinding efforts.
