Food Processor recommendations?

Hi
I am not a new cook, but I am new to nifty kitchen appliances.
Is it true that food processors can slice/dice my veggies for me?
Can a food processor coursely grind, say, cauliflower? Can it grind to a paste consistency?
Do you *highly* recommend a quality processor?
I’ve tried researching this several times between Google and Amazon reviews, but have gotten nowhere.
Thanks!!

I have a cook’s illustrated subscription, and they are like a consumer reports for kitchen gear. They tested food processors extensively, and their two favorite models were kitchen aid 12 cup with mini bowl and the cuisinart 11 cup.

They said that if you will be doing alot of bread doughs and pizza doughs, that the cuisinart was a little better. But for all other purposes, the kitchen aid edged out the cuisinart. But that basically, if you stick with one of those two brands, you are in great shape.

I have the kitchen aid, which i bought because of the removable mini bowl that fits down inside. I make alot of pesto, and in a big workbowl, a small amount of something gets lost. so mine allows me to make a little pesto, then take out the mini bowl and process soups or coleslaw.

Both models come with handy dandy sets of blades that let you chop, slice, grate ,or process.

I do highly recommend having one. i can grate an entire block of cheese in 5 seconds, make homeade hummus in 45 seconds, and coleslaw for 12 in 2 minutes. Also, my nephew won’t eat chunks of veggies in soups, but if i make the soup and process it smooth, he laps it right up.
