Rachel Ray Problems
My dog has a hard time making a bowel movement..?
He’s going on 6 this summer, and he’s a pit bull. He’s been eating diamond brand dog food, but since we found out that it has been on the recall list, we’ve been switching him over to the new Rachel Ray dog food. But the problems pooping have been happening since before the switch. He kind of quivers and walks slowly while going, and the poop doesn’t seem to be size equivalent to his body. He sleeps a lot and now today we’ve noticed that his nose is runny and he seems warmer than usual. Any idea what could be wrong with him?
it seems like he’s having a bad reaction to the rachel ray food. i’m not familiar with this brand, but any of the following items should be avoided and/or are common causes of allergic/poor reactions to dry food:
- beet pulp
- corn
- wheat
- chicken (not all dogs, but fairly common)
- fish meal (also less common)
- any animal “product”…this isn’t meat, more like stuff that wouldn’t even make it to a hot dog..gross
adding a supplement, such as missing link or missing link plus glucosimne includes nutrience like flax seed oil that really help with digestion. you could get blood tests, but my vet charges $300 for this, so i just started switching foods around when my dog was having digestive problems, and i found foods without chicken worked well. some high quality, natural foods that would be less prone to allergies include:
- orijen red
- taste of the wild high prarie
- acana grasslands
- taste of the wild pacific stream
- timberwolf lamb and apples
Your local pet store may have others, and they might let your dog have some samples. Though the foods I listed may be slightly more expensive, they actually have a higher kcal content that the cheaper foods, meaning you feed less, so the bag lasts just as long, plus you save on vet bills, and have a happy pet!
